How PR Can Help Freelance Writers and Bloggers

I was asked to present on a panel at the June 2012 PRSA Travel and Tourism Conference in Columbus on the subject of how PR can help freelancer writers (and, it ends up, bloggers) tell a better story. My co-panelists were two writers and fellow SATW members I’ve admired for a long time: Jackie Sheckler-Finch and Ed Wetschler. We covered a lot of ground during our one-hour presentation plus there were some really great questions from the audience.

While it’s impossible to share everything we discussed, I am posting the powerpoint I used as our visual. The main take-away is that freelancers are evolving and cover a wide spectrum of media. PR should take this into consideration when they work with freelancers.

  1. Hi Beth,
Thanks for sharing your Powerpoint. I’m no longer current on my PRSA membership, so I missed out on this conference.

The tip about keeping a Pinterest board of press trips is a great idea.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Beth. Do you think Pinterest is here to stay? I just don’t feel ready to commit yet because I have the feeling it’s just a fad.

  3. Hi, JoAnna. Thanks for stopping by. Due to its visual nature, I do think Pinterest is here to stay or at least until something similar/competitive pops up. Of course, there are quite a few tweaks that still need to be made including the copyright issue. It’ll be fun to watch how the site evolves.
